5 Easy 100th Day Activities for Upper Elementary

5 Easy 100th Day Activities for Upper Elementary

As an upper elementary teacher, you know that the 100th day of school is a milestone that should be celebrated in a big way! So here are 5 easy 100th day activities for upper elementary that I used in my classroom.

This year, why not try something new and implement math-based stations for your fun 100th day activities for students?

Blog post for 5 easy ideas for the 100th day of school

We did four different 100th day activities stations that are easy to implement and will make the 100th day of school fun and engaging for your students.

And for a simple 100th day craft idea, my students decorated their tables with 100 things! (more on that to come!)

100th day activity stations

Why do centers for 100th day activities for upper elementary?

This year I decided to do stations for a few reasons.

Doing stations allowed me to plan simple and easy activities for the 100th day of school that I wouldn’t have to worry about not taking up enough time of our day.

It also kept me from over-planning what I wanted to do for the day. I didn’t have to worry about running out of time.

It also broke up the monotony! Students were on the go every 17-20 minutes. Students didn’t have time to get bored and were excited to move on to the next activity.

Here are the four stations I did in my classroom:

  • 100 Cup Pyramid Building.
  • 100 Question Math Google Sheets Pixel Art Puzzles
  • 100-Piece Puzzles.
  • 100th Day of school reflections

Station 1: 100 Cup Pyramid Building (or 100 other building materials)

This station was equally exciting and frustrating for my students!

The students were challenged with creating a pyramid with 100 plastic cups. Students have to work together to create one pyramid and have to use ALL 100 cups.

Give your students little direction and let them work together to build a pyramid.

This station is a great way to incorporate problem-solving and teamwork into your 100th day of school celebrations.  The students thought it would be simple to tackle this tack, then quickly realized it came with its challenges.

The station is simple to set up and can be adapted for different grade levels.

For this station, you will need 100 plastic cups. That’s it! I got mine from the Dollar Tree.

Don’t have 100 cups? You could make this a 100 building station using other materials such as 100 dominos, 100 unifix cubes, 100 legos, etc to create their own masterpieces.

Station 2: 100 Question Math Google Sheets Pixel Art Puzzles

I had such a hard time finding 100th day math ideas, so I made my own!

The second station is the 100 Math Question for the 100th Day of School using self-checking Google Sheets Pixel Art Puzzles.

This station will review and reinforce math concepts such as multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting whole numbers along with rounding to the nearest 100. All 100 themed, of course!

For this station, the set up may be the easiest of them all!

All you need to do is make sure that you’ve assigned the questions to your students using Google classroom and that’s it!

Students are able to know if they got questions correct by typing in their answer into the answer boxes. If the student gets the answer correct the answer box will turn green and reveal a part of the picture.

If the students do not answer the question correctly, the question box will turn red and students will know that they need to try again.

When students have answered all 20 questions for each puzzle correctly it will reveal a full picture.

The resource that I have linked below includes five 20 question pixel art activities totaling to 100 questions.

In my classroom, each time a student finished one pixel art activity completely (20 questions), they received class bucks.

It’s an activity that all of my students love! And best of all, I don’t have to worry about it being another one of the 100th day math worksheets that they would have to do.

Station 3: 100-Piece Puzzles Puzzles

Who doesn’t love puzzles? It seems to be more of a lost art for my students (and even me).

Because my students never really get a Chance to work with puzzles, they were OBSESSED!!

I thought that these 100 piece puzzles would be super simple and quick for my students but they were a bit more challenging than I anticipated.

Teams were not able to finish in one rotation, but they left the puzzle as it was when they rotated.

The next group that rotated continued to work on the puzzles that students and other groups prior had started.

They were so locked in, focus, and quiet.

They really enjoyed this station as one to offset the more high energy stations.

I got these puzzles from the Dollar Tree as well!

Station 4: Reflecting on the Last 100 Days and Planning for the Next 100 Days

This resource is the PERFECT resource for the 100th day of school or the 1,000th day of school for 5th graders!

In this resource, students are able to reflect on the past 100/1000 days, calculate 100/1000 days in various ways, and write about life in the next 100/1000 days of school.

This station is also a great way to incorporate math into goal setting and reflection.

This resource included three printable 100th day activities.

Students can also digitally complete these activities on Google Slides to celebrate digitally.

100th day craft ideas: Decorating Tables with 100 Things for Morning Work

In my classroom I love to decorate for any for this celebration!

I tried to keep things pretty simple this time around.

I decided to cover the tables with butcher paper from the media center.

This is typical for any classroom celebration and FREE!!

But instead of the paper just sitting there, I decided to let my students decorate the butcher paper with 100 things.

Not only did it match the theme for the 100th day of school, but my students loved it!

So when my students came in in the morning, they put their book bags away, sat down and just had time to socialize and doodle with their classmates.

They were calm and content with having that easy start to the day.

And it made for some pretty cool tablecloths that we were able to have for the rest of the 100th day of school!

You can adapt this morning work for different grade levels by having students count out 100 items or have them create a picture or pattern with 100 items.

Conclusion

And that was the 100th day in my classroom!

We had 4 easy to implement 100th Day activities for upper elementary students.

The students enjoyed the day and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg to make the day special for them.
